Welcome Home

The Game.

"Welcome Home" is a 3D horror game where you play as a reporter desperate to find a big story before losing his job. He discovers an old, seemingly abandoned villa near a closed factory. Little does he know, the villa is home to the ghost of a young girl seeking revenge for her family's death. Collect clues, solve the mystery, and stop the evil to save your career. How will your story end?

Gameplay.

The game features two types of collectibles - notes and dolls. Notes contain information about what happened with the once happy family. They also uncover information about the mystery of the dolls. Collecting dolls is important but only when having read through all pages, will you understand what their purpose is. 

Navigate and explore through the map. Find all notes needed to uncover the mystery. Only when all notes are collected, the secret will be unfolded. In the end will you find out if you have done enough to stop the evil spirit that haunts the place. 

Controls.

Controls are designed for keyboard. It is recomended to use WASD. However, arrow keys work as well.

About.

The game is designed and developed by Stefan Markovski - SVM, as a part of the MA Games and Playful Design course in Goldsmiths, University of London. The project is made in the Unity 2022 Game Engine.  

It takes inspiration from games like "The Devil in Me" in "The Dark Pictures Anthology" and "Until Dawn" from Supermassive Games, as well as "Outlast" from Red Barrels. 

As a fan of the horror ganre, I wanted to create a proper horror experience for the players who enjoy this style. The project not only took inspiration, ideas and approaches from other games on the market, but also from my personal research on horror and fear. Having received great feedback on my last game "The Mystery of the Drowned Village", I wanted to push myself further and use the knowledge gathered from that project. I believe I have achieved a thrilling experience that will send chills down the spines of all who take part in this experience. 

The game was designed and developed in a very limited time frame. focusing on major aspects of the experience. I am proud with my project and will continue my journey on exploring the horror genre to keep on improving.

Tips for a better experience.

1. Play the game later during the day when it is darker.

2. Use headphones.

3. Adjust the volume based on your device. Each device has different range. Adjust it to your liking but keep in mind that the game should be loud.

4. When collecting a page in the game, do read the information it contains.

How to install.

1. Download the zip file.

2. Unzip the folder.

3. Run the exe file.
